SURREY Police Service (SPS) is warning the public that its non-emergency number, (604) 599-0502, is currently being spoofed by fraudsters to contact people with the objective of obtaining their personal information.
Police say incoming calls appear to be from SPS’s number. If a person answers, the caller may even fabricate an officer’s name and badge number to attempt to gain trust. These calls are not legitimate.
Police advise the public of the following:
- Do not provide personal information over the phone.
- Do not send money or respond to any links sent by the caller.
- End the call as quickly as possible.
- Verify the credentials of the caller by calling SPS’s non-emergency number (604) 599-0502 to provide details about the call.
