A new elevator is now open at Stadium–Chinatown Station, as Translink prioritizes accessibility and modernizes original infrastructure across the Expo Line. This new, higher-capacity elevator provides up to 20 per cent more room for SkyTrain customers.
The Expo Line Elevator Replacement Program is replacing 21 original elevators across 15 stations. Once complete, all the original Expo Line elevators will have been replaced with more modern and spacious ones, designed to make the system easier to navigate for a wide range of customers.
The new Expo Line elevators feature:
- More room for customers with mobility devices, strollers, bikes, and luggage to move efficiently through stations.
- Better reliability and reduced downtime for maintenance, minimizing impacts to customers.
- Improved resilience in warm weather, preventing unplanned outages.
Elevator replacement work at Waterfront Station was completed on April 24, with 22nd Street and Nanaimo stations also finished — bringing the total to six new elevators installed across the system since the project started. Replacement work continues at Edmonds and Scott Road stations, with reopenings at those stations expected in early June.
Some of SkyTrain’s original Expo Line elevators have been moving customers 20 hours a day, 365 days a year for nearly 40 years.
