Building on the success of previous years, DGC26 will welcome competitors from across Canada and the United States to compete in the traditional Sikh martial art of Gatka. The championship serves as a flagship event in the international Gatka community to promote Sikh heritage, athletic excellence, discipline, and the enduring values of courage, respect, and service.
Beyond the competition, attendees will experience a vibrant community marketplace featuring Sikh-owned businesses, community organizations, and cultural exhibitors. The event will also offer family-friendly programming and activities designed to engage participants of all ages.
In keeping with the Sikh tradition of seva and inclusivity, the community kitchen of Langar will be in service, welcoming all attendees to share in free community meals throughout the day regardless of their background.
DGC26 continues to strengthen community connections while inspiring the next generation to embrace and preserve the rich martial and cultural traditions of the Sikh faith.
“In the Sikh community, we always endeavour to honour and pass on the teachings of our history,” says Gurjot Singh, key tournament organizer from Toronto. “We proudly say that we come from a tradition of warrior-saints. Events like DGC26 help pass on values such as discipline, integrity, and respect for one another’s well-being. The Damdama Gatka Championship celebrates these values, and encourages our youth to practice them in their everyday lives.”
The Damdama Gatka Championship stands as a celebration of the Sikh values of discipline, service, responsibility, and respect, demonstrating how faith, culture, and community leadership come together to positively shape future generations.
