CARRYING forward the profound community legacy of its late founder, Anup Singh Jubbal, Canadian Eyesight Global (CEG) announces a free community eye check-up clinic on Sunday, June 14 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara at 8115 132 Street in Surrey, offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and open to all.
For over three decades, Surrey resident Jubbal dedicated his life to giving “light to the world.” His relentless humanitarian efforts earned him national and regional acclaim, including the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) from the Governor General of Canada, Service Above Self from Rotary International, The REALTORS Care Award from the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, the Community Mentor Award from The Surrey Leader/Now newspaper, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Surrey Rotary Club.
While Jubbal passed away in August 2021, he was fortunate enough to leave behind a powerful, living legacy that continues to directly transform lives. This upcoming clinic marks a seamless continuation of his grassroots vision, providing vital preventative eye screenings to seniors, local families, and individuals facing financial or logistical barriers to regular care.
Since founding the charity in 1989, Anup Singh Jubbal, alongside dedicated teams of doctors and volunteers, facilitated thousands of free cataract surgeries in India. He later expanded this vital work locally to ensure vulnerable populations in Surrey and the Lower Mainland had regular access to free preventative care.
“Our founder believed that the gift of sight is a fundamental human right,” says Vicki Singh, Co-President of Canadian Eyesight Global. “Few people are blessed to leave behind a legacy that outlives them so actively. Whether recognized through his prestigious awards or by the smiles of those who can see again, his impact lives on. We are proud to partner with the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, alongside Dr. Neima and his team, to keep his beautiful mission thriving right here in his home community.”
The clinic will be staffed by qualified healthcare professionals and dedicated community volunteers. Attendees will receive professional pre-screenings critical for detecting early signs of treatable eye conditions before they lead to permanent vision loss.
