Charges upgraded to murder after West End vehicle-ramming incident

CHARGES against the accused in a West End vehicle‑ramming incident last month have been upgraded to murder.

The accused, Tadd Bali, is now facing one count each of second-degree murder and attempted murder, as well as two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

The upgraded charges follow the death of the wheelchair‑bound senior who was struck by Bali and later died in hospital on May 24.

Bali was initially charged with four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm after he allegedly drove on the sidewalk intentionally near Broughton and Comox Street. The Jeep he was driving struck the senior in the wheelchair and later hit a police car responding to the incident. Two police officers were injured but were released from hospital the same day.

Bali remains in custody.
