VOICE wishes Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet the very best as he leaves for Manitoba on promotion

Cpl Bert PaquetWE at The VOICE are going to miss Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl. Bert Paquet, whose last day at the Surrey detachment is today (Thursday).

He accepted a promotion to the rank of sergeant at the Manitoba RCMP Winnipeg Headquarters, where he will be in charge of media and communications.

Paquet was amiable, cooperative and straightforward, an officer you could trust.

He joined the RCMP from Montreal in January 1993. After six months of training at the Academy in Regina, he was posted in Salmon Arm, where he worked general duty for 11 years.

He was transferred to Chilliwack in 2004 and worked there as a team leader in the community policing office. He began his media relations duties in 2006. In 2008, he was recruited as a spokesperson for the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit and handled the media during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2010.

Paquet was promoted as corporal to Coquitlam RCMP as their Media Relations Officer until 2011, when he joined the Surrey Detachment as in-charge of a Crime Reduction Unit in South Surrey. In September 2012, he began his duties as the Media Relations Officer for the Surrey RCMP.

Paquet told The VOICE: “While I leave many friends behind, this next step in our life is exciting for both my wife and I.”

He added: “Working at the Surrey detachment was an exciting adventure, often in challenging situations. No matter what section or unit I worked with, I was always amongst very smart people, making very smart decisions.”
