Abbotsford Police vehicle rammed, 2 men arrested

ON Tuesday, at approximately 12:50 p.m., Abbotsford Police officers patrolling the Whatcom Road area observed a Honda Civic which license plates did not match the vehicle.

With the assistance of the Air 1 Helicopter, police were able to keep the Honda under surveillance until it parked in a driveway in the 2900-block of Lefeuvre Road.  The driver exited the vehicle and walked away.

Patrol officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, at which time the passenger got into the driver seat and rammed the police car twice in an attempt to flee.  When the vehicle was not able to get out of the driveway, the passenger fled on foot.   He was taken into custody a short distance away with the assistance of a Lower Mainland Integrated Police Service dog.

The first driver was taken into police custody without incident.  He is a 36-year-old Abbotsford man facing new charges of prohibited driving and breach of court conditions.

The second driver, who rammed the police car, is a 37-year-old Abbotsford man facing new charges of dangerous driving, flight from police, prohibited driving, and breach of his court conditions.

Both men remain in police custody.
