ON May 31 at approximately 5:12 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 223 Street and Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. Police and first responders attended and located the victim, who was subsequently declared deceased on scene. Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect, fleeing the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and has been working in close partnership with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and Abbotsford Police to advance the investigation.
On August 23, the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) charged 26-year-old Alexander Delair of Maple Ridge with second-degree murder in relation to the homicide. Delair remains in custody.
“IHIT would like to thank our policing partners for their support throughout this investigation,” said IHIT Cpl. Esther Tupper. “This charge is a testament to the dedication and teamwork demonstrated by the Ridge Meadows RCMP, AbbyPD, IHIT and the I-Teams.”
IHIT is requesting anyone who has information about the incident and has not yet spoken with police to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released, IHIT said.
