Ambedkar Jayanti celebrated by Indian Consulate General in Vancouver

INDIAN Consul General in Vancouver, Manish, on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti last week paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr. B R Ambedkar at the Consulate General.
A virtual ceremony commemorating Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s birthday was organized by the Indian Consulate General in partnership with Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Vancouver; Chetna Association of Canada; and Ambedkarite International Mission Society, Calgary.
The virtual celebration was attended by Bruce Ralston, B.C.’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation; Sav Dhaliwal, Councillor, Burnaby City Council; and representatives of partner organizations.

The Consul General welcomed the guests and highlighted the contributions of Dr Ambedkar and thanked the Government of British Columbia and the Burnaby City Council to proclaim April 14, 2021 as “Dr B. R. Ambedkar Day of Equality.” All the guests highlighted the contribution of ‘Babasaheb’ in fostering equality in the society and his visionary leadership which gave India its Constitution.

During the virtual celebration, a short film “Mooknayak” on the life of Babasaheb was played and a video message from the Mayor of Calgary, Naheed Nenshi, was also played.
The highlight of the celebration was the proclamation by British Columbia and Burnaby City Council declaring April 14, 2021, as “Dr B.R.Ambedkar Day of Equality.”
