NDP Leader Horgan announces $400 renter’s credit to make life more affordable

AFTER 16 years of neglect from Premier Christy Clark and the BC Liberals it is time for renters in BC to get a break, said NDP Leader John Horgan on Wednesday.
“Christy Clark’s choices have hurt renters. She refused to close legal loopholes that let landlords impose big rent increases. And her inaction on the housing crisis has left families paying sky-high rents, with nowhere to turn if they are renovicted from their homes,” said Horgan.
“We will make life more affordable for renters. We will close the loopholes and introduce a $400 a year renter’s credit to help families manage the high cost of housing in today’s market.”
The NDP said Clark has made renting in BC less affordable and less secure and Horgan and the NDP will:

* Give renters relief with a $400 a year renter’s credit
* Change the law to close loopholes that let bad landlords jack up rents, including fixed-term leases and rent increases based on neighbourhood prices
* Restore Clark’s cuts to the Residential Tenancy Office to make sure renters can get help
