Another record breaking blood donation by Sant Nirankari Mission

“It’s in you to give,” the slogan of the Canadian Blood Services came to life during this clinic as a record breaking 110 units were raised by volunteers who gathered on the church grounds. Blood is a universal human life line. In recognition of this, the Sant Nirankari Mission, Toronto Branch held their 21st blood donation clinic in Brampton, Ontario on Saturday October 26th, 2013. The enthusiasm with which volunteers gathered to donate blood is very commendable.

The very first blood donation camp in Toronto was held in the year 1997. Since then devotees of the mission have participated with great zeal, so much so, that the amount of units donated has been increasing each year. This clinic was inaugurated by Mr. Brad Butt, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Streetsville along with Canadian Blood Services representative and officials of Sant Nirankari Mission, Canada.

Apart from the Mission’s members, local residents from the City of Brampton and Georgetown also participated by donating and supporting this great cause. Beryl Fernandes, the Community Development Coordinator for this region was impressed by the selfless environment and positive energy that emulated throughout the day. She explained that one blood donation has the capability of saving up to three lives and that donating blood is an effortless task based purely upon the attitude of gratitude.

One of the teachings of his Holiness Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji is to “Love all, Serve all.” All volunteers, donors, and devotees of the mission embodied this phrase throughout the day. Those who were ineligible to donate blood due to medical reasons helped in serving food and water to the donors and volunteers. The clinic provided everyone with an opportunity to give back to the community in their own way. Many donated blood for the first time, while others for the 16th time. A first time donor commented that the experience was very enjoyable and simple because not only was it easy to donate blood, but the blood also regenerates quickly, causing no harm to the body.

In all, the day was a great success. The selfless demeanor of volunteers combined with the worthy cause made the day meaningful. For the past 16 years the Sant Nirankari Mission has been holding these clinics and manifesting the teachings of their True Master, Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji; “Blood should flow in veins not in drains.”
