B.C. Conservative Party Vice President Harman Bhangu has won his party’s nomination in the new Langley-Abbotsford riding. He got 55 per cent of the votes in the first ballot.

Unlike others who were merely appointed in most other ridings — including MLA Elenore Sturko who defected to the party from BC United and was appointed as the candidate in Surrey-Cloverdale — Bhangu decided to battle it out for his nomination.

He has been director of the South Surrey-White Rock electoral district association for the Conservative Party of Canada (MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s riding). He was also on Pierre Poilievre’s leadership run team.

Bhangu says he is honoured to be a first-generation Canadian, born at Surrey Memorial Hospital to an immigrant family. Langley is Bhangu’s home, and he is deeply committed to understanding and addressing the unique issues and needs of its residents while advocating for common sense in British Columbia.

With 15 years of experience in the heavy-load trucking industry, Bhangu has gained firsthand insight into the challenges posed by government waste and increased taxes. As an aggregate hauler, he handles operations and bids for contracts, playing a crucial role in the construction of the infrastructure and amenities that benefit the community.

A life-long sports enthusiast, Bhangu has learned invaluable lessons on the field. He has dedicated hundreds of hours both as a player and a coach for minor league football. Sports has taught him the importance of teamwork, a principle he says he applies in his commitment to serving Langley-Abbotsford. He is determined to work collaboratively to address the needs of his constituents and help his community thrive.

Bhangu says he understands the difficulties of accessing healthcare, having experienced these challenges within his own family. Fixing the gaps in the healthcare system is a top priority for him. Additionally, he believes that filling up a tank of gas shouldn’t require taking out a loan. Canadian energy, the backbone of our nation, should be attainable and affordable for the average Canadian.

He attributes his success to the support of his beautiful wife, Courtney, and their two young children. As a father, he understands the pressures faced by young families and is committed to reducing their burdens as an MLA.
