Balvir Kaur Punia, 75, of Burnaby from VPO Jalaldiwal (Ludhiana) passed away on June 7.
Her funeral will take place on Sunday, June 14 at Five River Funeral Home in Delta at 10 a.m.

Peoples Drug Mart Walk for ALS
Join us for the 9th Annual Peoples Drug Mart Walk for ALS on Saturday, June 13. This fun filled community event will be kicking off at 10 a.m. at Mill Lake Park, in Abbotsford with the 5 km Walk starting at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Proceeds go to the ALS Society of BC to fund research and to provide support for those living with ALS. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neuromuscular disease that affects the person’s motor neurons which carry messages to the muscles. Surrey Fest Downtown
On Saturday, June 20, Surrey Fest Downtown will be returning for its 17th year. Hosted by the Whalley Community Association and presented by Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association. There is an impressive line-up of entertainment including the musically comedic That DAM Band from the Giggle Dam, Mission-based John Welsh Band, local up and coming girl band, Arium and the renamed Double Shotzz (formerly known as Drift Away). Specifically for the little ones in your life, Will Stroet and the Backyard Band will be our featured children’s musician. While the little ones enjoy the Kids Zone filled with rides, face-painting and bouncy castles, parents can explore vendor booths and the silent auction. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the North Surrey Recreation Centre parking lot (on the corner of 102 Avenue and City Parkway) and in the plaza at Central City Shopping Centre.

Metropolis at Metrotown: Interactive “Lightroom”

Inspired by artist Yayoi Kusama’s mirrored infinity room and the Social Soul experience at the 2014 TED Conference, the “Lightroom” is a unique and artistic installation comprised of a 60-second walk-through experience tied to social media. The Lightroom measures 20 feet by 35 feet and will immerse the customer in an illusion of thousands of twinkling lights. FlyOver Canada
Annual fireworks party on July 1 at 8 p.m. at Canada Place. Adults and families of all ages are invited to the celebration – which sells out yearly – to take in the fireworks show from a private viewing zone on the ‘flight deck’, while enjoying Vancouver’s hottest attraction FlyOver Canada, a simulated aerial adventure over Canada’s most stunning landscapes. FlyOver Canada will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with rides commencing every 15 minutes. Due to high demand on Canada Day, only FastLane bookings are accepted, with some standby General Admission tickets available on the day. As such, FlyOver Canada recommends guests book in advance online. Children must be at least 102cm (40″) to participate on the ride (approximate height of average a 4-year-old). Walk with the Dragon to Celebrate Multiculturalism
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation’s annual hallmark event, Walk with the Dragon, returns to the picturesque Lumbermen’s Arch, Stanley Park, on Sunday, July 19. This year, the foundation hopes to raise $400,000 from the Walk earmarked to maintain and enhance important S.U.C.C.E.S.S. services and programs for those in needs in the Metro Vancouver communities, particularly seniors and youth. More than 13,000 people are expected to join this year’s Walk which consists of a 7-km trek along the Stanley Park seawall, carnival style game and food booths and colourful stage performances at Lumbermen’s Arch. To coincide with this year’s theme of “Multiculturalism”, stage performances will be represented by different cultures, including Japanese, Philippine, Chinese, Slovak and Mexican.
Global Clergy Association of Canada
The Global Clergy Association of Canada (GCAOC) is a non-profit association which is going to hold a Pre-Parliament Conference on August 8 at Richmond Multicultural Centre with support of interfaith, spiritual, cultural and environment organizations, to promote peace and harmony; to spur and augment inter-religious dialogue; and to offer a taste of the Parliament experience.
