BC Liberals hail LNG decision as a great day for British Columbians and Canadians

Andrew Wilkinson

LEADER of the Official Opposition Andrew Wilkinson and the BC Liberal Caucus are celebrating Tuesday’s decision by LNG Canada to invest in British Columbia.

“This is a great day for British Columbians in every corner of the province,” said Wilkinson. “The BC Liberals have supported LNG in British Columbia for the last decade and we are very pleased to see the largest private sector investment in Canadian history being built in our province.”

This comes after LNG Canada announced a $40 billion investment that will see construction of a natural gas pipeline and a new terminal in Kitimat to ship LNG directly to Asia.

“This proves we can show the world that First Nations and industry working together can unlock economic opportunity,” said Skeena MLA Ellis Ross, former Chief Councillor of the Haisla First Nation. “Many people worked hard to make this happen, but no one pushed harder for this than former Premier Christy Clark and we wouldn’t be here today without her.”

“Responsible resource development leads to jobs, opportunity and ensures that British Columbians have access to the best services in the world,” said Langley East MLA Rich Coleman. “When the BC Liberals say they support LNG and other resource development projects, we mean it and we have never changed our position on that.”

“We look forward to seeing the NDP’s LNG legislation this fall, as it needs to guarantee British Columbians get a fair return for our resources,” added Wilkinson. “We’re going to ensure that British Columbians from all over the province will be first in line when LNG jobs are created.”
