RICHMOND RCMP Property Crime Unit’s latest ‘Boost and Bust’ operations on May 23 and June 15 aimed at addressing retail theft and enhancing community safety resulted in the apprehension of 16 offenders, and the recovery of over $9,000 in alleged stolen merchandise, including high-value items such as clothing and electronics. The majority of those apprehended were non-residents.
The PCU operations also resulted in the arrest of a serial offender allegedly responsible for theft of over $100,000 worth of merchandise. Additionally, one individual was found in breach of court-imposed conditions, and a warrant for fraud over $5,000 was executed.
Staff-Sgt. Gene Hsieh, Major Crime Commander, said on Thursday: “Retail theft is a constantly evolving threat that requires a dynamic and regional approach to combat effectively. Our ‘Boost and Bust’ operations are designed to make it less easy for offenders to operate, thereby deterring crime. These operations often reveal links to organized crime and other offenses, underscoring the boarder impact of retail theft on community safety. By working closely with local businesses and encouraging timely reporting of crimes in progress, we aim to create a less hospitable environment for criminal activities.”
