NEW CRIME PIC 2BURNABY RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in an arson investigation into the Marine Pub fire earlier this year.

On January 10, just before 3 am, the Burnaby RCMP received a report of a fire at the pub at 5820 Marine Drive. As police officers reached the scene, the pub was fully engulfed in flames and completely destroyed. “We are very fortunate that no one was injured during the fire,” said Cpl. Daniela Panesar.

Since that time, police have continued their investigation and recently came into possession of video surveillance footage taken during the fire. RCMP investigators reviewed the video which shows an unidentified man at the rear patio of the pub around 2:25 a.m. He is also seen earlier driving into the parking lot in a newer model light coloured car.

The suspect is described as a male 30-35 years of age with dark features, medium build and dark hair (receding hair line). He was wearing a dark jacket, white t-shirt, white runners and light colored pants.

Back in January, Pal Singh, the owner of the pub, told CTV that he had surveillance footage that showed a man putting two patio chairs upside down and then lighting a fire underneath, on the corner of the patio. He called 911.

The fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. with fierce flames shooting up high and requiring 34 firefighters to tackle it.

Anyone with information about this case, no matter how seemingly insignificant is asked to call the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 and ask to speak to the Investigative Support Team, quoting file number 2015-1350. If you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
