BURNABY RCMP are investigating a sexual assault that occurred on Sunday, December 31 at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The female victim was walking east on Brentwood Drive towards Delta Avenue when she noticed a man walking behind her. The man, who was not known to her, asked the victim for directions before hugging her, groping her, and attempting to kiss her.
The victim pushed the suspect away. He then ran towards Anola Drive.
The suspect is described as:
- South Asian male
- Approximately 40-45 years old
- Slim build
- Short grey hair
- Wearing a light brown jacket and black pants
The victim was not physically injured in the assault. She has been offered support through Burnaby RCMP Victim Services.
“We want the public to be aware of this incident and to report anything suspicious to police,” said Cpl. Laura Hirst with the Burnaby RCMP. “We would also like to applaud the victim for her bravery. She was able to quickly flag down a passerby and call police for help right away.”
Burnaby RCMP’s High Risk Offender Unit is leading the investigation. Officers have been in the area canvassing for surveillance video and are also appealing for dashcam footage from Brentwood Drive between Beta Avenue and Delta Avenue taken between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on December 31.
