Burnaby RCMP release suspect’s sketch after Deer Lake Park incident

BURNABY RCMP on Wednesday released a sketch of a suspect to create public awareness after a man allegedly made inappropriate comments and gestures to three women at Deer Lake Park on October 13.

The women were walking together when the man allegedly approached them and made the comments and a hand gesture.

There was no physical contact and the victims were able to safely walk away from the suspect.

“Burnaby RCMP is investigating this matter and has identified a person of interest in this case. Our investigation is ongoing, but we want the public to be aware that this happened, and to report any similar situations to police,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

While the sketch is based on the suspect description from the October 13 incident, Burnaby RCMP are also investigating four other recent incidents where a man with a similar description was also alleged to have made inappropriate comments to women near Deer Lake Park. The incidents happened between September 26 and October 17.

Burnaby RCMP are working to determine whether the incidents are linked.

“Our officers would like to urge anyone who may have encountered a similar situation to contact our investigators,” said Kalanj. “It’s important we hear from any other victims as our investigation continues.”
