CANADA Post announced on Wednesday that the following regions have been issued a yellow service alert due to inclement weather and snow:
- Fraser Valley (specifically Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge and Mission) – yellow as of December 21
- Metro Vancouver – yellow as of December 21
- Kamloops
- Kelowna
- North and Central B.C., including Prince George
- Powell River
- Vancouver Island
A yellow service alert means Canada Post is going to do its best to deliver, but there may be delays.
The red service alert issued Tuesday for South Vancouver Island (Duncan, Sidney and Victoria) remains in place, so there will be no mail delivery.
However, Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley (specifically Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge and Mission) have been moved to yellow, so mail is now moving.
“We continue to put contingency plans in place to get mail moving as soon as it’s safe,” said Canada Post.
“While our delivery agents are doing their best to deliver through these difficult weather conditions, severe winter elements pose a safety risk to our employees – and others. We are asking Canadians to keep a clear path home by clearing snow and ice from your walkways, stairs, and driveways, and around your mailbox.”
Some tips include:
- Remove snow and ice from your walkways, driveway, and around your mailbox.
- De-ice your stairs, entrance, and the path to your mailbox, using sand or salt.
- Keep your stairs, handrails, and mailbox free of obstructions, and in good repair.
