City of Delta says it looks ahead to continued progress in 2025

IN a report received by Delta Council at the February 10 regular meeting, City staff highlighted the progress made towards Council’s goals and priorities in 2024, while looking ahead to the exciting initiatives planned for 2025.

Major achievements for the City in 2024 included updating the Official Community Plan (OCP) for the first time since 1985, exceeding the Province’s housing target of net-new housing units receiving occupancy, and confirming the City’s largest ever capital project—the Winskill Renewal Project.

Alongside these significant milestones, Delta continued to invest in community-building events like the Boundary Bay Airshow and Luminary Festival, maintained quality services and facilities people rely on, and completed the Vision Zero Plan aimed at reducing serious injuries and fatalities on Delta’s roads.

“Reflecting on the City of Delta in 2024, I am incredibly proud of all that we have achieved as we build a community that truly meets the needs of residents,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Through the hard work of staff and leadership of Delta Council, we have made significant strides towards our goals and delivered on much-needed projects. From capital projects like the new Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre and the upgrade of the Delta Secondary School Track to pioneering initiatives like the City’s first-ever Housing Our Future Plan-A-Thon, the City continues to make vital progress—and we look forward to carrying this momentum through 2025.”

The staff report also outlined where the City is headed over the next year, highlighting projects like the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan, Neighbourhood Servicing Plans for growth areas, the upcoming Community Satisfaction Survey, and the ongoing revitalization of Ladner Village. These initiatives build on the work accomplished throughout 2024 and further Delta Council’s goals and priorities.

From building housing and growing sustainably, to leading responsibly, creating a more vibrant community, and more, the City of Delta has a clear roadmap for 2025 and will continue to make progress for the benefit of all Delta residents, the mayor said.
