City of Surrey offers fun and affordable after school programs

City of Surrey's MYzone.

THE new school year has arrived, and the City of Surrey says it has great options to support parents with affordable after school programs to keep children active and engaged throughout the school year.

MYzone and MYgame After School Drop-in Programs return this fall and run from October to June at seven locations across the city. These fun programs provide children ages 8-12 the opportunity to explore a variety of activities during critical after-school hours in a safe and fully supervised environment.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of MYzone, a program uniquely designed to promote socialization through gameplay, craft making, community project participation and quiet time for reading or homework. The program, which runs between 3 and 5 p.m. daily, also demonstrates key interpersonal skills, including the importance of healthy eating.

Special anniversary plans for MYzone’s 10th anniversary include a gardening project, where participants will plant native species at select sites around the city to highlight the themes of sustainability and reconciliation.

An additional city-wide event, organized and led by participants, is also planned for later this winter. More events are currently in development, and participants will play a key role in the planning and implementation of upcoming celebrations.

MYgame offers another opportunity to engage after school, as kids have the option to play sports and active games or learn a new card or board game from 5-6 p.m., daily.

MYzone and MYgame are included with the purchase of a MY Fun Pass or annual children’s pass. To register for MYzone and MYgame without the purchase of a MY Fun Pass, a one-time fee of $27.75 per child and $16.75 per child, applies respectively.
