Clintons meet Modi, praise clean Ganga effort 

 

New York (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former US president Bill Clinton and his wife and former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton who were full of praise for his efforts at cleaning the Ganga river.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was also present during the meeting. Hillary Clinton and Sushma Swaraj shared a hug.

“Thank you for undertaking cleaning of the Ganga. It is a sacred project and a smart approach,” Bill Clinton told Modi, according to a tweet by external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin. The former president also told Modi he was thrilled at meeting him and added that “no one had the knowledge and votes before you to build a national economy”, the tweet said.

Both Modi and Sushma Swaraj congratulated the Clintons for becoming grandparents.

A baby girl was born to their daughter Chelsea Clinton, 34, and her husband Marc Mezvinsky, 36, Saturday.

The baby has been christened Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky. The Clintons said in a statement they were “blessed, grateful and so happy to be the grandparents of a beautiful girl”, and tweeted the photo of them holding the child.
