CONSERVATIVE Leader Pierre Poilievre on Tuesday released the following statement on Eid al-Fitr:
“The rich traditions of Eid al-Fitr have brought warmth and joy to Muslim homes and communities for centuries. After a month of fasting, prayer, charity and self-sacrifice, families gather to take part in this timeless celebration.
“Around tables filled with traditional dishes and sweet treats, Muslims give thanks for the wonderful gifts of Ramadan: they celebrate the endless wisdom of the Holy Quran and honour the ways that God has faithfully answered their prayers. They continue giving back to their communities and taking time to remember loved ones gone too soon.
“Eid is also a time to look ahead with excitement to the rest of the year. Rejuvenated by the past month of spiritual discipline, gratitude and reflection, Muslims will undoubtedly be seeking new ways to grow in their spiritual life and finding renewed fulfillment in their dedication to the values of peace and truth.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I’d like to thank the Muslim community for all that you’ve done to pour back into your communities this Ramadan. Thank you for all the ways that you’ve offered hope to your neighbours, brought kindness to your workplaces, and uplifted those around you.
“Tonight, may each of you receive back that same spirit of hope and generosity that you have faithfully shared with others.
“Eid Mubarak.”
