COVID-19 outbreaks at Eagle Ridge Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital, George Derby Centre and White Rock Seniors Village: Fraser Health

FRASER Health on Wednesday declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Eagle Ridge Hospital after evidence of transmission in an acute care for elders unit.

Four patients have tested positive for COVID-19 as part of this outbreak. The outbreak is limited to one unit, which is temporarily closed to admissions.

Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Columbian Hospital after evidence of transmission in a medicine unit.

Eight patients and four staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 as part of this outbreak. The outbreak is limited to one unit, which is temporarily closed to admissions.

Upon declaring the outbreaks, Fraser Health immediately implemented precautions at both sites, including enhanced cleaning as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, and patients.

The emergency departments at Eagle Ridge Hospital and Royal Columbian Hospital remain open and there have been no impacts to any other areas of the hospitals.

Fraser Health has notified all patients on the affected units about each outbreak, and in addition, families of patients who are unable to share this information have been informed.

Long-term care

Fraser Health has declared COVID-19 outbreaks at George Derby Centre in Burnaby and White Rock Seniors Village in White Rock.

Four residents and two staff members at George Derby Centre, and ten residents and ten staff members at White Rock Seniors Village have tested positive for COVID-19.

George Derby Centre is a long-term care facility that is owned and operated by George Derby Care Society. White Rock Seniors Village is a long-term care facility that is owned and operated by Retirement Concepts. The residents and staff members are currently in self-isolation at their homes.

Fraser Health has worked with the sites to support the implementation of enhanced control measures. Fraser Health is also working with the sites to identify anyone who may have been exposed, and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families.
