CTV confirms Indian media reports that Arshdeep Singh Gill alias Arsh Dalla has been arrested (updates)

Arshdeep Singh Gill alias Arsh Dalla.

CTV on Tuesday confirmed Indian media reports that Arshdeep Singh Gill alias Arsh Dalla has been arrested in Ontario.

CTV reported: “The 28-year-old Dalla and his co-accused, Gurjant Singh, are both being held in custody at Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton, Ont. A court date for what lawyers say will be a “lengthy bail hearing” has yet to be scheduled.”

As The VOICE reported in an earlier report on Sunday, Ontario’s Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) announced on October 29 that it was investigating a shooting that took place in Milton a day earlier. The HRPS was contacted by Guelph Police in the early morning hours of October 28 after two males attended a hospital in Guelph. One of the males was treated and released for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound apparently suffered in Halton region. The other was not injured.

The HRPS Major Crime Bureau was investigating and both males had been arrested. A 25-year-old male of Halton Hills and a 28-year-old male of Surrey, British Columbia, had both been charged with ‘discharging firearm with intent.’ Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The HRPS said that police are still actively investigating this occurrence and would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious or may have dash cam footage from Guelph Line north of Campbellville in Milton between midnight and 6 a.m. on October 28.

Indian media on Sunday were reporting that their sources — apparently Indian intelligence — in New Delhi had claimed that Arshdeep Singh Gill alias Arsh Dalla, who was designated a terrorist by India, was likely one of those who had been arrested by the HRPS.

Indian Police allege that Arsh Dalla is associated with the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF). India’s External Affairs Ministry had named Arsh Dalla as one of the alleged Khalistani terrorists for whom extradition requests have been made to Canada.

According to India Today: “In Canada, Dalla’s gang has been involved in violent clashes with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, with whom he has a long-standing rivalry. In 2023, the Bishnoi gang reportedly broke into the Winnipeg home of Sukhdul Singh, alias Sukha Dunike, a close associate of Dalla, and shot him dead.”

ON Tuesday, The Times of India reported that October’s shooting incident had left Dalla injured in the arm. It said that “Canada’s official documents” (which could mean that Indian intelligence had leaked the information) showed that “a cache of arms and ammunition, including a rifle, a shotgun, a pistol and two high-capacity magazines of 15 and 35 rounds were recovered from his premises.”

The newspaper reported that according to those documents, “Dalla and Singh arrived at the hospital in a Dodge Durango SUV. They told police that while driving on Guelph Line, north of Highway 401 in Milton, Region of Halton, an unknown vehicle drew up beside their SUV and several shots were fired into their vehicle, resulting in the gunshot wound to Dalla. Dalla had a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his right bicep, which was treated by hospital staff.”

The Times of India, quoting the documents, added: “Dalla and Singh were arrested for the offence of discharging a firearm with intent. Both were cautioned, given rights to counsel, and transported to central lock-up at Oakville police station. The accused’s clothing and phones were seized by police. Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing. The police sought their remand for three days.”

ON Tuesday, the Director General of Police of the Indian state of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said in a post on X: “In an intelligence-based operation, #CI Bathinda, in a joint operation with Mansa Police has successfully apprehended Shimla Singh resident of Ghrangana.

“During interrogation, Shimla Singh has disclosed about his involvement in the grenade attack on a Mansa Petrol Pump on 27/10/24, carried out under the directions of #Canada-based Arsh Dalla. He further disclosed that he obtained the grenade from Garhshankar area on instructions of Arsh Dala, and also provided logistical assistance to the shooters involved in the Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau Murder incident.

“[Punjab Police India] is conducting a comprehensive investigation to expose further links in the conspiracy and more arrests are likely.”

There have been numerous reports in Indian media over the years accusing Arsh Dalla of directing violence in Punjab from Canada.
