AFTER significant consultation with stakeholders and community members, the City of Delta designed and constructed a new off-leash dog park at Pebble Hill Park that is now officially open to the public.

The new enclosed off-leash dog area includes two separate fenced areas for dogs: a small dog area with wood chip surfacing, and a large ‘all-dog’ area with wood chip and gravel surfacing. The off-leash areas are located along the BC Hydro Right of Way, and built in accordance to BC Hydro guidelines.

Other new amenities include benches, an accessible paved pathway, a new drainage system, multi-stream waste receptacles, and new landscape plantings. A water fountain is scheduled to be installed this summer.

“I am excited to see the new Pebble Hill Off-Leash Dog Area officially open to the public and ready to benefit the surrounding neighbourhood,” said Delta Mayor George V. Harvie on Monday. “Shared spaces like parks and off-leash dog areas are vital for building our sense of community. Developing amenities like the Pebble Hill Park Off-Leash Area encourages us to spend more time outside in our naturally beautiful neighbourhoods and enriches the lives of residents and their pets.”

The original Pebble Hill Park Reserve off-leash dog area was established in 2010, within the BC Hydro Right of Way. In lieu of fencing, signage and natural boundaries provided guidance to dog owners regarding the designated area, sharing the space with other park users.

In response to public support for a more defined off-leash area, consultation on this project began in March 2021, by way of a community feedback survey. After adjusting the original plans to address residents’ input, a second round of consultation was initiated in the spring of 2022.

Upon approval from BC Hydro in October 2023, implementation of the concept plan began.
