Downtown Eastside machete attack suspect back in custody

THE man charged in connection with a Downtown Eastside machete attack last June is back in custody, after allegedly breaching his bail conditions last month, Vancouver Police announced on Tuesday.

Kenneth Solowan, 37, was re-arrested on Saturday in Mission, when a witness recognized him from a picture released by Vancouver Police and called police.

Solowan remains in custody.

Solowan disappeared from the residential treatment facility he was ordered to live at in Surrey.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault for the unprovoked attack on two people who were loading luggage into a taxi near the Empress Hotel near Main and Hastings on June 19.

He was arrested by Vancouver Police on August 10, and had been held in custody until September 29, when he was granted bail by the courts and disappeared.
