VANCOUVER Police have identified and charged two suspects in connection with the violent robbery of a 75-year-old senior near East Hastings Street and Jackson Avenue on July 28.
The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m., when the victim was assaulted and robbed by a group of suspects. One suspect repeatedly pushed the victim to the ground before punching him multiple times in the face and stealing his personal belongings.
The victim followed the suspects in an attempt to recover his property. During the confrontation, he was slammed into a wall twice before the suspects fled the area.
Several witnesses and bystanders called police. The victim was transported to hospital with a head injury, bruises and abrasions. He was later released from the hospital.
On July 30, officers conducting proactive patrols in the area observed a man believed to be involved in the robbery and arrested him without incident.
On August 2, police responded to a report of an unwanted person inside a nearby residence. When officers arrived, they identified a second individual believed to be involved in the robbery and took him into custody.
Kurt Werner Steinhauser, 43, and Andre Joseph Brunet, 40, have each been charged with one count of robbery. They both remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
