AT approximately 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, police received reports from BCEHS of an eight-vehicle collision near Fraser Highway and 64 Avenue in Surrey. Officers found that a single motor vehicle mounted a curb and struck seven unoccupied parked vehicles.
Surrey Fire Service firefighters and BCEHS paramedics attended the scene and despite life-saving medical interventions, a 58-year-old man died.
The RCMP Surrey Police Operations Support Unit’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (SPOSU CCIT), and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) are investigating the collision.
At this early stage, the cause of the collision remains unknown, but it is believed that it is due to a medical emergency suffered by the driver, police said.
One lane westbound on Fraser Highway between 64 Avenue and 196 Street is closed. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to find alternate routes and avoid the area.
