PRIME Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday spoke with B.C. Premier John Horgan about the floods and landslides affecting the province.
Horgan provided Trudeau with an update on the situation. Trudeau expressed deep concern about the floods and landslides and their impact on families in British Columbia, with thousands of people affected, according to a press release by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Trudeau reiterated that the Government of Canada will support British Columbians with any federal resources required, from short-term assistance – such as providing air support – to long-term rebuilding efforts.
Trudeau and Horgan agreed that extreme weather events such as these demonstrate the need to raise ambition in the fight against climate change.
The two leaders also discussed other shared priorities, including health care and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. They agreed to stay in touch.
