Abbotsford – On Wednesday at 5:25 pm a man entered a convenience store in the 2100 block of
McKenzie Road. He confronted a 21 year old female employee and demanded cash. The man brandished a handgun, wore a hoody and had a bandana covering the lower portion of his face. Once he obtained money from the cash register he fled on foot southbound on McKenzie Road.
The suspect was described as a Caucasian man, 5’6” tall with a stocky build. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled around his face. Under the sweatshirt hood was a baseball cap. He wore sunglasses over his eyes and a red and white bandana over his mouth and nose. The suspect wore light coloured plaid patterned shorts, light coloured gloves and black and white running shoes (see still images).
Abbotsford Police Department Patrol Division officers, Major Crime detectives and Forensic Identification Section members are all investigating the robbery. This represents the fourth business robbery in Abbotsford in just 22 days. In all of these incidents, a lone suspect has entered a business with a firearm in hand and wearing a hoody with bandana covering his face. The businesses have had minimal staff, and to this point, no customers in the premises when the suspect commits the robbery. Despite the fact a single suspect enters the business, it does not rule out the possibility that others are involved in the robberies by waiting nearby with getaway transportation.
Again, the APD are encouraging business owners to elevate their robbery awareness and security practices, and to ensure that store video surveillance is operational. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity in and around businesses.
Anyone with information about this incident should call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or text 222973 (abbypd) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
