Fraudsters spoofing Surrey Police Service non-emergency number

SURREY Police Service (SPS) is warning the public that its non-emergency number, (604) 599-0502, is currently being spoofed by fraudsters to contact people with the objective of obtaining their personal information.

Police say incoming calls appear to be from SPS’s number. If a person answers, the caller may even fabricate an officer’s name and badge number to attempt to gain trust. These calls are not legitimate.

Police advise the public of the following:

  1. Do not provide personal information over the phone.
  2. Do not send money or respond to any links sent by the caller.
  3. End the call as quickly as possible.
  4. Verify the credentials of the caller by calling SPS’s non-emergency number (604) 599-0502 to provide details about the call.
