DELTA Police on Tuesday announced that Gurvinder Uppal, 29, of Delta has succumbed to his injuries in Monday morning’s targeted shooting.
On January 20 at 7:18 a.m., Delta Police responded to a shooting that occurred at a residence in the 8100-block of 112B Street. Officers located one male, now identified as Uppal, injured as a result of the shooting. He was transported to hospital for treatment. A white Ford truck was seen leaving the area following the shooting.
At 7:26 a.m., Delta Police also responded to a reported vehicle fire in the 7300-block of Blake Drive where officers located a white Ford pickup truck that was fully engulfed in flames.
“While we wait to confirm connection between these incidents, our investigators do believe the burning truck is involved in the shooting investigation,” Delta Police had said on Monday.
“These incidents have the hallmarks to other BC Gang Conflict shootings. Investigators believe the shooting to be a targeted incident and not directed at the general public.”
Police sources told The VOICE on Wednesday that Uppal was associated to a group aligned with the UN Gang.
The Delta Police Department (DPD) said on Tuesday that its Major Crime Section is now investigating this shooting as a homicide after Uppal succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
