Hiker dies at Crooked Falls in Squamish Valley

ON the evening of Thursday, July 31, Sea to Sky RCMP – Squamish received a report of a hiker who fell into Crooked Falls in the Squamish Valley. Squamish Search and Rescue (SAR) responded and located the individual, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Due to challenging terrain and fading daylight, recovery of the hiker was not possible at that time. The following morning, on Friday, August 1, Squamish SAR returned and recovered the hiker.

There is no indication of criminality and the BC Coroner’s Service is now investigating to determine the cause of death, police said.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” said Constable Kelly Wu, Sea to Sky RCMP – Squamish spokesperson. “We would like to thank Squamish SAR for their dedication and efforts at this tragic event.”

Out of respect for the family of the deceased, no further details will be released, police said.
