Stephen Johnson charged in August 2024 homicide of Dillan Unger in Langley

CHARGES have been laid following an investigation into an August 2024 homicide in Langley.

On August 2, 2024, at 12:46 a.m., Langley RCMP responded to a report of gunshots in the 7000-block of 202B Street in Langley. Two men suffering from gunshot wounds were subsequently located at the hospital. One of the men succumbed to his injuries and the second was released from hospital.

To further the investigation, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) identified the victim as 41-year-old Dillan Unger of Langley.

Throughout the course of this investigation, IHIT has worked in close partnership with the Langley RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to identify a suspect, understand the circumstances around the homicide and recommend charges.

On July 31, the BC Prosecution Service charged Stephen Johnson with second-degree murder in relation to the homicide of Unger. Additionally, in relation to the August 2, 2024 incident, Johnson was charged with:

  • four counts of attempted murder,
  • one count of aggravated assault,
  • one count of using a firearm in the commission of an offence, and
  • one count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Investigators can confirm that Unger and Johnson were known to each other. Johnson remains in custody.

“Over the past year, investigators have remained committed to advancing this investigation and securing charges in this case,” said IHIT Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi. “IHIT would like to thank the Langley RCMP and IFIS for their support throughout the investigation.”

As this matter is now before the courts, no additional information will be released, IHIT said.
