ON Monday (October 21), RCMP were called to a residence on Seaton Avenue in Coquitlam around 3:30 p.m. Frontline officers attended and located two deceased persons inside. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken conduct of the investigation.
“Evidence from the initial investigation indicates that one of the deceased persons was the victim of a homicide. Although the circumstances surrounding the death of the second person are still being examined, we do not believe that there are any outstanding suspects,” said IHIT Constable Harrison Mohr. “We believe this incident was contained within the residence, and can confirm that both persons knew each other. Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this tragedy.”
CBC later reported that eight-year-old Oscar Taitinger was the homicide victim, according to his mother, Nicole Taitinger. She told CBC that she broke up with the boy’s father, Mark, after 25 years of marriage. Mark was also found dead in the home. Oscar was the youngest of three boys.
IHIT’s investigation is ongoing, and is focussed primarily on the one residence. Investigators may be at the scene and in the neighbourhood for several more days as they continue to gather evidence.
