Human remains found in Burnaby (updated)

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is requesting assistance with the investigation of a suspicious death in Burnaby.

On March 18 at 1:57 a.m., Burnaby RCMP frontline members responded to a report of human remains found in a park near the 4300-block of Garden Grove Drive. The circumstances surrounding the remains and the area were deemed to be suspicious and IHIT was called in to investigate.

IHIT is working closely with the Burnaby RCMP, Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the BC Coroner’s Service to gather evidence and complete priority tasks.

“It is very early in the investigation and at this time the priority for investigators is to identify the remains,” said IHIT Detective Lara Jansen.  “The neighbourhood is a mixed-use residential and commercial area and believed to be used frequently, even throughout the overnight hours. Investigators are asking anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam video from the area to contact IHIT.”

Jansen told the media that investigators believe it’s a woman, but due to the circumstances involved with the burning of the body that has not yet been confirmed.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
