ICBC says it’s responding to the growing demand for driver licensing services in Surrey by opening a new office location and a dedicated road test facility in Surrey.
The new driver licensing office on 152 Street near 105 Avenue opened on Monday. This additional ICBC location increases ICBC’s knowledge test capacity by more than 18,000 appointments and increases the number of counter transactions available by more than 35,000 annually.
In January 2024, ICBC will be opening a dedicated road test centre at the former Guildford driver licensing office location, boosting the number of road tests done annually in Surrey by more than 20,000.
“As Surrey’s population continues to grow, so does the need for more driving licensing services in the community,” said Garry Begg, MLA for Surrey-Guilford. “This expansion to ICBC services in Surrey, including a dedicated road test facility, makes good on our commitment to ensuring that essential services are available to the residents of Surrey in the most timely and convenient way possible.”
In addition to a new dedicated road test facility in Surrey, ICBC has hired more driver examiners, reduced the length of road tests to allow for more road tests per day, and introduced a standby option for booking road tests, allowing drivers to attend an ICBC office for a same day test.
“This expansion is part of our wider strategy to reduce wait times for British Columbians for services like road tests and other driver licensing related appointments throughout the province,” said David Wong, ICBC President and CEO. “In addition to the expansion in Surrey, next year we’re planning to open a new driver licensing office inside the new West Kelowna City Hall to help meet the growing demand for services in the Okanagan area.”
ICBC has 124 offices where driver licensing services and/or road testing services are available for British Columbians.
