IHIT called to Burnaby to investigate fatal shooting

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called to Burnaby after a shooting that has resulted in the death of a man

On Tuesday, just after 11 p.m., Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 4700-block of Hastings Street. When police arrived, they located a man deceased. The scene was immediately secured. Police are still on scene and remain in the area as the investigation continues.

Approximately 20 minutes later, police responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in the 8200-block of Burnlake Drive.

Homicide investigators are looking for dash-cam video. Anyone with dash-cam video in the area of Hastings Street and Beta Avenue, between 10 p.m. and 11:20 p.m. is being asked to contact IHIT investigators.

Also, if you were in the area of Burnlake Drive and Government Road between 11 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. and have dash-cam video, IHIT investigators would like to hear from you.

Traffic on Hastings Street between Gamma Avenue and Beta Avenue, and the surrounding area, will likely be affected for several hours due to the ongoing investigation.
