IHIT confirms Langley homicide victim was Julian Cardenas

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team on Saturday confirmed The VOICE’s report that Friday’s homicide victim in Langley was Julian Moya Cardenas, 18, of Langley, who is known to police.

Police believe that this shooting was targeted. Homicide investigators are looking to speak with anyone who knew of Moya Cardenas’ activities and associates.

On January 7, at around 1:30 p.m., Langley RCMP responded to the intersection of 202 Street and 88 Avenue in the Walnut Grove area for multiple calls of assistance. First responders arrived and found one person suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics attended to the victim, but he succumbed to his injuries.

A bystander was hit during the shooting and was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injures. They have been identified but their name is not being released.

IHIT continues to process the scene and is working in partnership with the Langley RCMP, the LMD Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service.

“Our thoughts go out to the families of those impacted by this incident,” said IHIT Sgt. David Lee of IHIT. “The shooting was reckless and a complete disregard for the safety of the community.”

Homicide investigators are constructing a timeline of events and canvassing for witnesses, cellphone video, and dash-cam footage. Anyone with information or footage is being asked to contact IHIT.
