IHIT investigating suspicious death in Maple Ridge (update)

(January 13 update)

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is requesting assistance with the investigation into a suspicious death in Maple Ridge.

On Saturday, January 11, at 1:21 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP frontline members responded to a report of a found body in a rural area near the 24500 block of Lougheed Highway.  The circumstances surrounding the body and the area were deemed to be suspicious and IHIT was called in to investigate.

IHIT is working closely with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the BC Coroner’s Service to gather evidence and complete priority tasks.

“At this time, the name of the victim is not yet known and investigators are working hard to confirm the identity,” said IHIT Detective Lara Jansen.  “Though the area is rural, investigators believe that it does get used frequently by pedestrians so we are asking anyone who has been in that area to contact IHIT.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
