IHIT releases photos of suspect in Richmond murder of Derrek Chen, 46, and his 13-year-old son (update)

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) identified the victims of the November 30 double homicide in Richmond as Derrek Chen, 46, and his 13-year-old son and released photos of a suspect.

On November 30 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Richmond RCMP responded to a reportĀ  a suspicious circumstance at a residence in the 6200-block of Goldsmith Drive. Police located the bodies of Chen and his son inside the residence. IHIT took conduct of the investigation and continues to work closely in partnership with the Richmond RCMP, the RCMP Forensic Identification Service and the BC Coroners Service.

Through extensive evidence and information collection, IHIT investigators now believe that at approximately 8:40 p.m. on November 30, a suspect fled the scene on foot into London Sports Fields.

The suspect had a balaclava type of mask and was wearing a dark coat, light blue jeans and a white hat.

IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti said: ā€œWe are asking to speak with everyone who was at the London Fields on November 30, 2023 between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.ā€

He added: ā€œAnyone who knew Derrek Chen or his 13-year old son, who can provide insight as to who would want to hurt these people, please contact IHIT immediately.ā€
