IIO investigating motor vehicle incident in Surrey

THE Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating a motor vehicle incident that occurred on Wednesday morning in Surrey.

Information provided by the Surrey Police Service (SPS) states that at about 5:25 a.m. on January 21, an officer driving a marked police vehicle observed an allegedly stolen black Ford F350 in the area of 88 Avenue and Holt Road. The F350 drove away.

The F350 was subsequently involved in a collision at the intersection of 88 Avenue and 128 Street with a dark-coloured Honda Accord, and a person riding a motorized scooter. The driver of the F350 left the area on foot.

The rider of the scooter sustained serious injuries in the collision and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver and sole occupant of the Accord was not seriously harmed.

The IIO was notified shortly after the incident occurred and has begun an investigation.

The SPS said in a press release that the Surrey Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS) attended to assist with locating the suspect but were unsuccessful.

Police said 128 Street and 88 Avenue is expected to be closed for several hours while the investigation continues.

The IIO requests that any witness who has information or video footage regarding this matter to contact the IIO at its Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
