IIO seeks witnesses to October arrest by Surrey Police Service officers

THE Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) is seeking witnesses to the arrest of one man in his early 30s in Surrey on October 26.

The IIO said on Thursday that the affected person was at a Circle K at the intersection of 138 Street and 72 Avenue. At approximately 5:10 p.m., the man had an interaction with members of the Surrey Police Service who were using an RCMP vehicle, after leaving the store. He was then arrested in the parking lot in front of the building.

The IIO was first notified on November 1 and has now determined the man suffered a serious injury during the arrest and is seeking witnesses to the incident.

The IIO is requesting anyone who was in the area of the convenience store and saw the man’s arrest take place or the interaction leading up to it on October 26 between 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., to contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in BC. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
