METRO Vancouver Crime Stoppers reports in its 2024 Impact Report that 4,555 anonymous tips were received last year, a 10-per-cent increase over the previous year (4,147 tips). Sixteen arrests were made based on information from tips.
In all, 284 of those calls provided valuable tips about gang crime activities, leading to seven gang-specific arrests. Also, there were 222 tips related to illegal guns.
Since the inception of Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers more than 40 years ago, 13,028 arrests have been made, and more than half-a-billion dollars in property and drugs have been recovered based on information received by anonymous callers.
“January is Crime Stoppers Month in Canada, and the longevity and ongoing success of Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers are once again reflected in this year’s Impact Report. Sixteen arrests for a range of crimes were made last year that likely wouldn’t have happened without the anonymous tips received by Crime Stoppers. Seven of them were for gang-related offences,” said Linda Annis, Executive Director of Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers.
“With the ongoing concerns over our personal safety and property crimes in our own communities, we urge anyone with information on any crime, or any most-wanted criminals on the loose, to call us. We don’t want to know your identity or where you’re from, we just want information that can help police solve crimes. It really works.”
Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS, through the “P3” Crime Stoppers app, online at solvecrime.ca or through Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers’ Facebook page. Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips 24/7 and in 115 languages.
