Indian Consul General Manish gifts books on “Introduction to India” to Vancouver Public Library

INDIAN Consul General Manish gifted a set of 51 books to Jennifer Chan, Library Board Chair of Vancouver Public Library (VPL), in a ceremony held last week at the library.

The set of books consisted of well-known titles in English, Hindi and 21 Indian regional languages and included popular Indian stories.

The presentation of books to Vancouver Public Library is part of the Government of India’s public diplomacy initiative to gift books on “Bharat Ek Parichay” (Introduction to India).

Accepting the books on behalf of the library, Chan noted that “the set of books will be a valuable contribution to the collection of the library, and will immensely benefit the readers and general public interested in Indian studies.”

The Consul General thanked Chan for receiving the collection of books and adding an India corner in the library. He highlighted the strong cooperation between India and Canada in the educational sector.

Manish also requested the support of the library to commemorate 75th anniversary of India’s Independence as part of #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav and requested the VPL to partner with the Consulate General to celebrate it. Chan welcomed the proposal to partner with the Consulate General to celebrate #India@75 – #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav and assured Manish of the VPL’s participation in the celebration.

The event was attended by Kay Cahill, Director of Collections and Technology, and other staff members of the library.
