ISLAMIC Relief Canada announced on Wednesday hat it is back again this year, hosting Grand Iftars in Metro Vancouver and Victoria to rally support for orphaned children in some of the most vulnerable corners of the world.
These Grand Iftars are part of a series of special events hosted in over 20 cities across Canada to observe the holiest month in Islam, Ramadan, and reflect and raise funds for those who are in need of support globally.
Iftar is a meal eaten after sunset following a fast. Ramadan is a time of spirituality, community and giving. The Grand Iftars bring together Muslims from coast to coast to build a stronger relationship with God and their community and focus on giving back and supporting communities in need.
The Grand Iftars will raise awareness and support for orphaned children affected by war, natural disasters, bereavement, poverty and ill health.
“Ramadan is a time of selfless actions, praying and charity,” says Hassaan Sheikh, Regional Fundraising Manager at Islamic Relief Canada. “This Ramadan, we hope to bring together the Canadian Muslim community in Metro Vancouver and Victoria to be a means of hope and relief for right-holders in some of the most vulnerable corners of our world.”
