Jasvir Gill and one other arrested for residential shootings and two homicide investigations in Ontario

POLICE have charged two individuals in an investigation that links residential shootings and two homicide investigations.

The two homicide investigations are those of the shooting deaths of international student Jagraj Singh in Mississauga and Indian couple Jagtar Singh and Harbhajan Kaur in Caledon. In both cases, the victims were mistakenly targeted, according to police.

Project Midnight, a joint Peel Regional Police (PRP) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigation, began when police identified a connection between three residential shootings in the City of Brampton, a homicide in the City of Mississauga, and a double homicide in the Town of Caledon in November 2023.

As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, March 21, Corey Denton, a 34-year-old from Scarborough, was arrested and charged with the following offences: three counts each of possession of a loaded restricted weapon, knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, and unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm; and two counts each of discharge firearm with intent, and     possession for the purpose trafficking.

On Wednesday, May 22, Jasvir Gill, a 37-year-old from Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, was arrested and charged with the following offences: discharge firearm with intent, and two counts each of possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, unauthorized possession of firearm, possession property obtained by crime, possession of firearm, contrary to order and breach of probation.

They are both scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

This investigation, led by the Peel Regional Police Homicide Bureau and Caledon OPP Detachment Major Crime Unit, remains ongoing. It is assisted by OPP and PRP Forensic Identification Services and conducted in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, and the Centre of Forensic Sciences.
