THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Thursday identified Tuesday’s homicide victim in Burnaby as 25-year-old Johnson Viet Anh Do of Surrey in hopes of advancing the investigation.

Though this appears to have been a targeted shooting, investigators are working to determine a motive, IHIT said.

Through extensive video canvass, IHIT investigators have identified a suspect vehicle, a Silver 2010 Buick Enclave, last observed fleeing east on Kingsway Avenue.

On January 23 at 10:35 p.m., Burnaby RCMP received a call of a shooting in the 5500-block of Kingsway Avenue, Burnaby. Officers located a 25-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and continue to work closely in partnership with the Burnaby RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section and the BC Coroners Service.

“We’re releasing Mr. Do’s name in hopes that those out there who had recent contact with him, will reach out and help us develop a time-line of his activity leading up to the shooting,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “We’re also asking the public to be on the lookout for this Buick Enclave. If you come across this vehicle, please contact IHIT immediately.”
