“KAUM,” a dynamic live and interactive art exhibit, will be held at Surrey City Hall on April 14 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. as a pivotal part of the province-wide celebration of Sikh Heritage Month, the Sikh Heritage Society of BC said on Tuesday.
“Kaum,” meaning community, symbolizes the unbreakable spirit and resilience of the Sikh community through centuries of trials and triumphs. The exhibit comes at a momentous time, reflecting on 40 years since the 1984 Sikh Genocide. This year’s theme, “Chardi Kala,” embodies the concept of rising spirits and resilience in the face of adversity and oppression, highlighting the relentless pursuit of justice and peace by the Sikh community.
The event promises an evening filled with a rich tapestry of art forms, from visual art and film to poetry and music. Each piece has been thoughtfully curated to explore the past, present, and future of Sikh resilience, offering attendees an immersive experience into the heart of Sikh culture and its profound narratives of strength and hope.
Guests will have the opportunity to engage directly with artists and storytellers, delving deeper into the meanings and inspirations behind their works. “Kaum” is not just an exhibition; it is a communal space for reflection, learning, and connection.
Sikh Heritage Society BC said it invites all to join in this significant cultural event. Whether you are well-versed in Sikh history or eager to learn more, “Kaum” offers a welcoming space for people from all walks of life to come together in celebration and solidarity.
